Xbox Series S Design Leaks Online, Xbox Series X Pricing and Release Dates Revealed
UPDATE: Microsoft have acknowledged the leaks and officially revealed the Xbox Series S, confirming the $299USD price tag stating it is “the smallest Xbox ever” with next gen performance.
More details of the Xbox Series S will be revealed soon Microsoft have promised.
Original Story: The long-rumoured Xbox Series S - commonly referred to as Xbox Lockhart - has leaked online, this time showcasing the design in a leaked video marketing comparison between the two next gen Xbox systems, in addition to release date and pricing scheme.
Leaked online via Brad Sams of Thurrott, here is our first look at the currently unannounced Xbox Series S - Microsoft’s entry-level next gen console - which is expected to launch at $299USD.
The console features a much smaller and thinner design to the Xbox Series X and more comparable to the current Xbox One S, sporting a white finish with an extremely huge cooling vent on top. It will not feature a disk drive and will be an only-digital console.
The Xbox Series S is rumoured to include 7.5GB of RAM with 4TF GPU running at an underclocked CPU speed, compared to the Xbox Series X, the higher-end SKU, which features 16GB RAM and a 12TF GPU.
The Series S will be roughly as powerful as the current Xbox One X, however sporting next-gen features such as an NVMe SSD, fast resuming multiple games and raytracing, geared towards 1080p/1440p as opposed to 4K from Xbox Series X.
WindowsCentral later confirmed via their sources that the Xbox Series X and S will launch simultaneously on November 10th, 2020 - with the Xbox Series S launching at $299USD while the Xbox Series X will launch at $499USD.
Microsoft will continue its current Xbox All Access financing option with both next-gen Xbox SKUs, with a $25USD per month option for the Series S, which WindowsCentral claim Microsoft is planning to push hard via various retailers and a large global roll out. The Series X will have a $35USD per month All Access option.
With both Microsoft and Sony playing a game of tug-of-war for months over who’ll go first with next gen pricing and release dates, it’ll be interesting to see how Sony reacts and if these leaks will affect the currently-unannounced prices and release date of the PlayStation 5 - which is already very likely to launch at $499USD this November.
We’ll be sure to update this post once official news is announced by Microsoft, which should be very soon following these substantial leaks.
