DIRT 5 Playgrounds Mode Lets Players Create and Share Their Own Unique Events
Codemasters have officially revealed DIRT 5 Playgrounds mode - an all-new feature to the DIRT franchise, which gives players the ability to design, create, edit and race on your own custom racing arenas and share them to the DIRT community.
Revealed during Gamescom Opening Night Live, DIRT 5 Playgrounds lets players create their own events from scratch with a blank canvas, which can be filled with various objects including bumps, kickers and ramps, to loops, tunnels and rings of fire in order to create the perfect playground.
You can check out the DIRT 5 Playgrounds Mode reveal trailer for yourself below:
Players will have the option of two playground locations - Arizona or the South African city of Cape Town, where players can choose between three different event types for their playgrounds; Gate Crasher, Smash Attack and Gymkhana.
Playgrounds Mode features many different options to let players fine-tune their arenas, with a huge suite to select from in the Objects menu. Terrain modifiers such as dirt areas, bumps and water spots, set pieces including loops, buses and wrecked vehicles, and gymkhana-focused props such as drift gates and donut spots. Players will also be able to decorate their arenas with items, foliage and a colour editing option.
Objects placed inside a Playground arena can be rotated, duplicated and snapped together to help make arena creation as seamless and intuitive as possible, with an option to test your playground at any point from the pause menu.
Much like in games such as LittleBigPlanet and Dreams, Playgrounds can also be published online for the entire DIRT community to experience, allowing players to set names, event types, car classes and tags for others to discover. Playgrounds will also feature their own unique global leaderboards for players to compete against their world and the playground creator themselves!
Playgrounds will have a dedicated Discover option to help guide players to the most unique and varied off-road racing experiences created by the community. Players will be able to browse events based on a bunch of different categories, such as the ‘Featured’ category recommended by the DIRT 5 team, ‘Popular’ showcasing the most raced on playgrounds, and ‘Top’ showcasing the highest rated playgrounds.
Players can also search for a specific arena manually in the Search menu, as well as be dropped into a completely random selection of Playgrounds from the Lucky Dip button. Playgrounds can also be pinned and saved to replay at any time from the ‘My List’ menu.
As a huge fan of games like LittleBigPlanet which give you the freedom to create and share, I’m extremely excited to get my hands on Playgrounds Mode and to see what crazy and unique playgrounds the DIRT community will come up with!
DIRT 5 launches on October 16th for PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC, or three days earlier with the Amplified Edition, with a free next gen upgrade to PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X versions when the respective consoles launch later this year.
