New Need for Speed Game Confirmed for 2019
Electronic Arts have officially confirmed that a new entry in the arcade street racing franchise ‘Need for Speed’ will be launching in 2019 - continuing the two year release cycle first introduced with Need for Speed (2015).
During a recent earnings call, Andrew Wilson (CEO, Electronic Arts) revealed what gamers can expect from EA throughout the year, with Need for Speed mentioned as one of the main titles EA plans to ship this fall.
“Looking forward, we’re delighted to launch Anthem, our new IP, to grow Apex Legends and related Titanfall experiences, to deliver new Plants vs. Zombies and Need for Speed titles, and to add Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order to our sports titles in the fall.”
Don’t expect news or teasers for Need for Speed 2019 any time soon though, as with most Need for Speed titles, they’re typically revealed closer to June with a gameplay reveal at EA Play (EA’s E3 press conference).
Need for Speed’s community manager, Ben Walke, confirmed this by tweeting the following:
While this news may very well have been predictable in the Need for Speed community, it’s been quiet from Ghost Games and the future of Need for Speed has seemed questionable after Need for Speed Payback’s mixed critical and fan reception, and with Ghost Games’ studio founder Marcus Nilsson recently leaving the studio.
This year will mark the 25th anniversary of the Need for Speed franchise since its original debut on the 3DO back in 1994, so we’re hoping Ghost Games is pulling out all the stops with their next Need for Speed title and cannot wait to see what they’ve got in store for Need for Speed fans.
Expect an in-depth wishlist for what WE would like to see in Need for Speed 2019 in the coming days, but for now, what do you want to see in Need for Speed 2019? A return to the dark, gritty feel of Need for Speed 2015, proper cop chases, more expansive online modes? Let us know down below!
