Toyota Gets Roasted by Need for Speed, Issues Statement About Racing Games
With the recent gameplay reveal of Need for Speed Heat, fans have questioning Toyota's continued absence from the series, with Toyota UK chiming in with a heated response... and so did Need for Speed.
When asked by a fan on Twitter where Toyota's are in Need for Speed Heat, Toyota UK responded "Not there. You can find our cars in GT Sport, which doesn't promote illegal street racing "
This has garnered huge attention in the racing game community, and one even Need for Speed's official Twitter decided to roast aswell. Many big names have called Toyota out on this poor response, including ourselves, which felt insulting to fans who love their cars and just want them in games again.
Toyota UK have since removed the tweet and issued an apology via Twitter which you can read below:
"About last night...
We love that you want to see our cars in all your favourite racing games, and honestly, we want the same thing.
Most of us in the Toyota GB social media team fell in love with cars through games like TOCA, Daytona and Gran Turismo. One of us even has fond memories of Pole Position on the Atari!
Officially, Toyota Motor Corporation has no concrete plans to license its model range to any other games besides Gran Turismo Sport at the moment.
When you challenge us as to why Toyotas don’t appear in your favourite racing games, we don't want to reply to you with a generic message, but we're currently limited in what we can say and yesterday we got our response wrong.
We'll be really excited to share our future plans with you as soon as we're able to. In the meantime, whether it's Gran Turismo Sport, Forza or Need for Speed, keep on racing."
All jokes aside, this was an honest and transparent response from Toyota’s social media manager and one that hopefully helps the age-old company see the love and demand fans have for their cars - especially the Supra line - which the new GR Supra would fit right at home in the new Need for Speed Heat.
