Rumour: Battlefield V and Plants VS Zombies: Garden Warfare 3 Coming This Year
While it's confirmed a new Battlefield is coming this October, Battlefield V looks to be the title of this year's upcoming EA shooter, with a possible Plants VS Zombies: Garden Warfare 3 also launching at some point in 2018.
According to source's familiar with the title speaking to VentureBeat, Battlefield V is this year's Battlefield game and will take the series back to it's World War II days, the first time in a main entry since 2009’s Battlefield 1943. The title was internally known as Battlefield 2, similar to how 2016's WWI entry Battlefield 1 was titled, until changing it to it's current internal title; Battlefield V.
Back in December, a rumour started circulating via YouTube in which claimed the next Battlefield title would be Bad Company 3, and that it would take place around the Vietnam War. VentureBeat confirmed that this rumour is false, but that DICE are listening to Bad Company fans and are open to making a sequel in the future.
Additionally, it seems Battlefield V isn't the only shooter EA have planned to release this year, though notably with a much different tone.
An Amazon listing for an upcoming Plants VS Zombies: Garden Warfare comic book all but confirms a sequel to 2016's Garden Warfare 2 is in the works. The product page for the book reads, "Paul Tobin returns to write the official comic book bridge between video games PvZ: GW2 and PvZ: GW3 with Tim Lattie returning to deliver artwork!"
While no official announcements for Battlefield V or Plants vs Zombies: Garden Warfare 3 have been made, we're positive that Garden Warfare 3 will be saved as an announcement at this year's EA Play in June, while Battlefield V will be revealed in early May similarly to Battlefield 1.
Battlefield 2018 is confirmed for an October release, with a specific date yet to be announced. If Plants vs Zombies Garden Warfare 3 is to release in 2018, we may be looking at a late September release date, as September 25th is the expected release date of the upcoming Garden Warfare comic book.
Personally, as an avid fan of both franchises, I'm much looking forward to finding out more of this year's Battlefield title as Battlefield 1 is still one of my favourite FPS games I've played this generation. While I never expected a Garden Warfare 2 sequel, it's great news to see EA wishing to make this series grow, and hopefully we see more at EA Play this June.
