Forza Horizon 5 Drastically Improves Engine Sounds & Adds Upgradable Car Audio
During the latest Forza Horizon 5 ¡Let’s Go! livestream, Playground Games delve deep into one of the community’s most eagerly anticipated features for the upcoming open-world racing game - engine sounds and car audio.
After a mixed reception many in the community have been vocal about from Forza Horizon 4, Playground Games have doubled down and invested significantly in improving the quality of car audio and engine sounds in Forza Horizon 5.
Forza Horizon' 5’s Lead Audio Designer Fraser Strachan went in-depth explaining all the new technology and lengths the audio team had to go to trying to capture authentic cars sounds from a range of real-world vehicles to use in-game, showcasing various vehicles including the Toyota Supra, Volkswagen Golf R, Lancia Stratos, Jaguar XJ220 and many more.
You can watch the full behind-the-scenes recording with all its Toyota Supra turbo flutter and Golf R DSG popping glory below:
One of the hugest changes to audio is Forza Horizon 5’s brand-new modular Audible Upgrades system, which will progressively modify the sound of your car overall depending on the set up of performance parts you have equipped. Chuck on a race camshaft and notice the pitch in tone rise, or add a whole new turbo and listen as the sound of your car transforms.
Forza Horizon 5 will feature hundreds of new engine swaps which can be applied much like in previous games, with hundreds of new performance part options including turbos, intakes and exhausts. No two cars will sound alike with the new audible system.
What’s better is with the brand-new user interface in Forza Horizon 5, you can hear all these changes happen in real-time while customizing your performance setup in the garage/house - which you can view in action below:
Playground have improved how engine sounds work in the open-world as well, with sounds blending more naturally when cars are side-by-side or when a convertible has its roof up or down. Car sounds will also change dynamically depending on the camera view players select.
For players playing on Xbox Series X|S and PC, audio will be less compressed and played back at a higher and more cleaner bitrate. Audio-based raytracing is involved as well on next gen systems, adapting with precise tracking of all the world sounds around you.
Playground Games have also teased their next Forza Horizon 5 ¡Let’s Go! livestream, mentioning that we can expect a look through each of the open-world’s eleven distinct and unique biomes of Mexico. Playground also revealed to keep an eye out for a full car list reveal coming in August.
